Replacing the ARCA-SWISS FlipLock Lever
The flipLock® quick-release supports both widely-used Classic ARCA-SWISS plates and the more compact, lighter monoball®Fix plates. It features a lever with three positions: open, closed, and an intermediate setting that allows for secure sliding adjustment of the camera plate.
Optimized and adjusted for original ARCA-SWISS plates, fliplock is adjustable to fit dimensions of other brands' plates that follow the ARCA-SWISS Classic standard. However, we recommend using only one brand of camera plate or L-bracket so that adjustments aren't required between plate brands.
The flipLock lever may break if forced closed on camera plates with wider or rounded dovetails, such as RRS. Adjust the jaw spacing properly for optimal performance with other camera plate brands. Should the lever break, you can purchase a replacement kit and refer to the instructions below to replace the lever mechanism.
REMOVE THE FLIPLOCK LEVER
1) Prepare your workspace - Ensure you are working over a table to prevent losing any small components, especially the springs and spacer disks from the quick release mechanism.
2) Loosen the jaw - If possible, begin with the lever unlocked and the quick release fully unlocked and open as illustrated below. Using one hand, squeeze the quick release jaws together, then turn the silver cog wheel counterclockwise (or downwards if using the illustration) to loosen the jaw on the lever locking side.
3) Remove the clamp on the locking side - Continue loosening until the clamp on the lever locking side is free and can be removed.
REASSEMBLING THE NEW LEVER
1) Insert the new lever - Following the provided diagram, correctly position the new lever, ensuring the original springs are securely in place for proper operation.
2) Secure the lever - While pressing the jaws together, rotate the silver cog wheel clockwise (or upwards) to tighten and secure the new lever in position.
3) Final adjustment - Use a camera plate to fine-tune the quick release mechanism, making sure it fits snugly with your specific brand of camera plate. When making the final wheel adjustment, ensure the plate allows some movement when the lever is in the intermediate position, and is fully secured when the lever is locked and completely closed.
