ARCA-SWISS D4 - A product design with worldwide recognition
The ARCA-SWISS D4 tripod head revolutionized the design of the cumbersome 3D head, achieving worldwide recognition for its innovative and patented design. The D4 has been widely adopted by photographers for its fast manual operation, with the added benefit of micrometric gear driven controls.
The D4 won the prestigious iF Design Award, standing out from the competition for its degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, and the durability of its functions. A testament to its precision, top-class performance, and cutting-edge design.
Elegant and robust design
ARCA-SWISS changed the design rules of conventional heads with the introduction of the D4 by eliminating the major disadvantages of 3-way tripod heads, such as size and weight, off-axis mounting points, and protruding knobs and levers.
The elegant and refined design is machined from high-grade aluminum to ensure solidity and robustness. Weighing just 980 grams, the D4 supports a load of 30 kg / 66 lb, making it the ideal choice for photographers who require a tool that is both sturdy and portable for field use.
Manual and geared movements
The D4 head's vertical and horizontal tilt provide separate manual and geared controls. The manual and geared control knobs have different shapes, instantly recognizable by touch alone, allowing concentration on the image rather than the controls.
Simple and instinctive use
The position of the camera is quickly set up for a composition using the manual teardrop levers and base panning. The composition and leveling can then be fine-tuned using the round geared knobs, and small corrections left or right using top panning.
Dual panning mechanisms
The D4 has two panning mechanisms: a bottom panning mechanism to align the camera with the subject and a top panning mechanism for precision panning once the camera is leveled. The camera can be tilted forward 90° for positioning the camera parallel to the ground, and rotated 180° using top pan for quick positioning the camera for overhead views.
The top panning mechanism is manually operated in the D4 standard configuration. A geared panning option (D4 gp) allows either precise geared panning or manual control of the top panning mechanism.
ARCA-SWISS continues to be a pioneer in the industry. Innovative design and quality craftsmanship make the D4 a top choice for photographers who demand excellence and artistry in form and function.
